Our Work
Change the Record?
‘Change the Record’ was a commissioned project to consult with young people in South London for two months in 2011. The medium for the consultation was our youth radio station, Reprezent . The subject was whether the Metropolitan Police should stop formally recording ‘Stop and Accounts’.
One of Reprezent’s lead presenters, Tarek Chaudhury, fronted the ‘Change the Record’ radio campaign, presenting phone-in shows and leading the team collecting the views of young people on the streets. He was also given a place on the consultation panel in City Hall to discuss young people’s views with politicians and the police. Tarek’s radio show and the City Hall event were given prime-time television coverage on ITV.
We hosted information and links on www.reprezent.org.uk, and held a competition with simple response requests to gain young people’s views. We produced and played an infomercial during prime-time slots to raise awareness of the project with our listeners, and briefed young presenters to promote the campaign on their shows.

“Reprezent radio has been and continues to be an invaluable means of enabling young people of London to have meaningful dialogue with the Metropolitan Police Service both at borough level and with specialist units. The station played an invaluable role in getting young people to take part in the extensive consultation on whether the Metropolitan Police Service should cease or continue the recording of Stop and Account.”
