Our Work

Off the Streetz

Reprezent’s innovative ‘Off The Streetz’ project provides young people at risk of underachieving at GCSE level the opportunity to take part in a radio production course. This gives them a range of transferable skills to improve their employment prospects.
Funded by Children in Need, 'Off The Streetz' includes a mixture of:

·         Structured learning in technology and media

·         Fun activities producing multimedia content for Reprezent

·         Careers advice with various colleges and career advisers.

Young people learn skills which enable them to take on volunteer roles at the Reprezent FM radio station, whilst also sourcing work experience placements during the school holidays, both in media related and office based roles.

'Off The Streetz' has also included stimulating elements such as visits to professional radio stations and workshops delivered by media experts.

We address personal issues such as confidence and self-esteem, communication skills and motivation. By working with young people before they leave school, we can help them tackle barriers to employment before they enter the job market.

Project achievements include:

  • Qualifications- 38 young people have completed the course and gained 2 AQA qualifications and are working towards completing their Bronze Arts Award.
  • Commitment and enthusiasm- Students stay on during the summer holidays producing and presenting radio shows, conducting interviews and creating features.
  • Development- Many project graduates have become peer mentors for new students.
  • Experience- Students have made contacts in the industry via Off the Streetz, with some getting work experience at BBC 1xtra and Universal.
