Our Work
Sounding Out
Our Sounding Out project provides young people with skills to become a radio presenter whilst exploring a wide range of topical issues such as domestic violence, unemployment and gangs in London. The course is funded by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission and leads to an AQA accreditation.
Trainees attend 10 sessions led by experienced tutors who are also radio presenters. After the project, trainees have the opportunity to volunteer regularly at Reprezent 107.3 FM, and many of our current team of presenters are graduates from the project.
A Sounding Out course offers young people the chance to learn audio-editing techniques, make vox pops and research their chosen subjects. Interviews with guests from the worlds of music, politics and radio also give young people a great opportunity to debate their opinions with real decision makers.
Project achievements include:
Qualifications- 112 young people have gained an AQA qualification or are working towards completing their Bronze Arts Award.
Engagement and enthusiasm- After the course many young people stay on to produce radio shows, coordinate events and contribute to other training projects.
Employment- Graduates have been offered part-time paid positions at Reprezent as Broadcast Assistants after showing dedication and excellent radio skills during the project.
