Training & Education
KS4 Engagement Programme
The programme works in partnership with schools to engage students aged 13 to 16 who are identified as at risk of exclusion from mainstream education, offering them an active learning experience in radio production with GCSE accreditation.
We offer young people the opportunity to develop skills in radio and media in a professional environment, learning how to operate a radio station, produce and present radio shows, visiting radio stations and interviewing industry DJ’s and media professionals. Students also improve their teamwork, presentation, journalism and research skills, as well as their confidence and self esteem, oral communication, time management and organisation.
Throughout the course, students compile and produce a portfolio of work that is externally verified by the NCFE (Northern College of Further Education) which evaluates individual progress and achievement according to the course syllabus. By the end of the programme, students are able to achieve GCSE equivalent accreditation, which has proven invaluable to boost young people’s confidence and aspirations.
The programme can offer your school with a creative alternative to mainstream education, engaging young people in the fast paced world of media and achieving nationally recognised accreditation for over 90% of students engaged. Recent schools participating include City Academy in Peckham and Walworth Academy.
Currently supported by the Positive Activities for Young People fund, we have successfully delivered this programme in partnership with several schools in Southwark already, and plan to expand the programme to other schools across London.
